WEEE Directive

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. It seeks to achieve this by making producers responsible for financing the collection, treatment, and recovery of waste electrical equipment and by obliging distributors to allow consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive was agreed on 13 February 2003, along with the related Directive on Restrictions of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS).

UK Regulations implementing the WEEE Directive came into force on 2 January 2007.

Under the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005, it is an offence to produce hazardous waste at premises or remove that waste from premises, unless those premises are either registered or  exempt.

As a PC manufacturer who has redundant IT equipment collected from their premises in accordance with the WEEE directive, SCIS UK Limited are registered with the Environment Agency as a Hazardous Waste producer and have a licence code of NQF493, this licence is renewed every year.

We also have a contract with a WEEE specialist company to deal with PC disposal and recycling when a system comes to the end of its life. We take care of the WEEE for every system we build for you, leaving you to focus on what you are best at.
